Resumption of direct flights between Russia and Azerbaijan will increase transport accessibility

Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Jayhun Bayramov said that in the near future it is planned to resume some direct flights between Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation, which were discontinued after the plane crash of AZAL passenger airline in December 2024. Members of the Russian Union of Travel Industry note that the development of direct air service is one of the factors influencing the convenience of travel and accessibility of the route.

The National Tour Operator "Alean" notes that in the first half of 2026, the volume of sales of tours to the republic almost reached the level for the entire year 2025, and the dynamics are gradually approaching the levels of 2024.

The resumption of direct flights will make travel more convenient and predictable for tourists. Further dynamics will depend on the parameters of the flight program - number of flights, their frequency and geography of flights. The wider the route network, the more opportunities will appear for tourists from different regions of Russia. In the second half of the year, an additional factor for travel may be holding a "Formula 1" Grand Prix in Baku, which traditionally attracts the attention of foreign guests. Despite the fact that the average cost of trips to Azerbaijan this year is higher than the previous year, interest in the direction remains , - noted the press service of the National Tour Operator "Alean".

The Russian Union of Travel Industry notes that further development of air services between countries will contribute to expanding opportunities for tourist trips and strengthening tourist exchange between Russia and Azerbaijan.
